Veterinarian
We welcome back Harriett Howe, DVM as our official AlpacaFest West Show Veterinarian. She will be available to perform vet check-in at the following times: Thursday 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Friday 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We are pleased to have Anita Dennison, DVM joining us. Dr. Dennison will be available for vet check-in Friday 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Dr. Howe will be on call for the duration of the show.
Alpaca Health Requirements
All alpacas entered in or present at all AOBA Certified shows must be negative for BVDV by a PCR or VI lab test and said negative results shall be indicated on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) along with the lab name and ascension number. No other BVDV test results will be accepted. The CVI must also include the alpaca's name and microchip ID # for each alpaca including companion animals. Show management suggests exhibitors bring a copy of the lab results in case something is left off the CVI.
You must bring both the original of the CVI and a photocopy. We are required to keep the photocopy for our records. You must have the original CVI with you for transporting your alpacas to and from the show and for the onsite veterinarian to visually inspect during vet check-in. All animals must be sound, healthy, and free of internal and external parasites.
Vet Check-in
When you arrive at the show grounds you will be required to go directly to the Vet-Check area. All alpacas will be examined and found to be healthy, and the presence of a microchip will be confirmed before they are allowed into the stalling area. Be sure that the microchip number and BVDV PCR or VI test results, along with the lab ascension number are listed on your Certificate of Veterinary Inspection. It would not hurt for you to have a copy of the lab results on hand in the event the vet inadvertently omits any of this information. Have your original Certificate of Veterinary Inspection in your hand ready for the Veterinarian and a copy of your CVI to turn in to Show Management. All owners are required to submit a copy of the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection stating that all necessary State test and mandated AOBA tests such as BVDV PCR or VI testing for all alpacas entering the venue, whether in competition or entering the premises for any other reason. A copy will be kept as part of the permanent show records.
